Many toddlers living in USA are crazy over Elmo! Some just can't get
enough of this red furry monster from Sesame Street. Elmo has been on the
Sesame Street show for some 25 years, but his popularity is as strong as
ever. Wonder why? Well, here's what I found:
- Child psychologists and educators say
Elmo is attractive to small children for reasons that range from simple to
complex. His bright red color, his high-pitched voice and his sweet,
fun-loving nature instantly attract toddlers' attention.
- Elmo speaks to children on
a fundamental level because he is modeled after a 3-year-old. He likes to
sing. He has a special friend. He's fascinated by the small epiphanies of
growing up � tying shoes, washing hands, hopping on one foot. As such,
preschoolers identify with him over more mature characters such as Big
Bird, Grover, Bert and Ernie.
- Many parents love Elmo aslso for
his relentless optimism, good cheer and insatiable curiosity.
- Elmo's enduring popularity is also due
to savvy marketing.
